Demolition raises fears of asbestos
CONCERNS about material in demolition refuse being used as landfill in Old Goombungee Road are being investigated.
Workplace Health and Safety (Queensland) investigated the demolition of a block of flats at 251 James Street two weeks ago and had given notice to stop demolition and removal work.
There was concern asbestos might be at the site.
A WHSQ spokesman confirmed yesterday that a licensed asbestos removalist had been removing matter from the James Street site.
The Environmental Protection Agency said it had received a complaint in regards to dumping of the material and was liaising with the WHSQ in the investigation.
